What drives the cost of trades social media

Social media for a trades business costs more or less depending on a handful of factors. Knowing them helps you choose a plan and spot quotes that don't add up.

  • Posting volume. Two posts a week on two platforms is a very different workload from daily posts on four.
  • How much filming coaching you need. A crew already comfortable on camera needs less support than one that has never filmed a job.
  • Editing depth. Simple trims and captions take minutes. Multi-clip edits with voice-over take much longer.
  • Paid social. Managing ad campaigns adds planning, monitoring and reporting time, separate from any ad budget you pay the platforms.
  • Number of locations or service areas. Separate pages or campaigns per town multiply the work.
  • Other channels. If social media is one part of a wider plan, including your website, Google Business Profile or search ads, the right plan changes.

How to choose a plan

A rough guide, based on where your business is today:

  1. You have a steady business and want consistent social content. The Growth plan is the usual starting point. It suits companies building their first serious short video and before-and-after routine.
  2. You want social media alongside other channels and a better website. Elite adds broader multi-channel marketing and a discount on Trades.Agency website packages.
  3. You run several crews or locations and want a team behind you. Enterprise includes a dedicated team, priority support and a free website build.

If you're unsure, start smaller. Because plans are month-to-month, moving up later is easier than cutting back.

A worked example: is it worth it?

Here's a simple way to check whether any marketing spend makes sense for your business, using your own numbers.

Say you run a renovation company. Your average bathroom job is $22,000 and your gross margin is 35%, so each job contributes about $7,700. On the Growth plan at $1,999 a month, plus 5% GST for a BC or Alberta company (about $2,099 in total), one extra bathroom every three or four months would cover the plan with room left over.

Now check it against reality. Do you have capacity for that extra job? How many enquiries does it take to win one? Are customers actually mentioning your posts? These are the questions we'll go through with you in the first consultation, using your figures rather than ours.

What you get regardless of plan

Some things don't change with the plan you choose:

  • You own your pages, ad accounts, footage and photo library
  • A consent routine for customer photos is built in from the start
  • Monthly reporting in plain language
  • A senior strategist on the first call
  • No long-term contract, and 30 days' notice to cancel

Questions to ask any social media provider before you sign

Whether you work with us or someone else, ask these before paying anything:

  • Who owns the page, the ad account and the footage if we part ways?
  • Is the ad budget included in the fee, or paid separately to the platform?
  • How many posts a month, on which platforms, and who films them?
  • How do you get customer consent for photos of their homes?
  • What do you report each month, and how do you connect posts to enquiries?

A provider who can't answer all five clearly isn't ready to handle your brand in public.

Next steps

Compare the services to see what fits your trade, read the FAQ for common questions about contracts and ownership, then call, text or email. Tell us your trade, your service area and roughly how many jobs you do a month, and we'll recommend a starting point.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a contract?

There's no long-term contract. Every plan runs month to month, and 30 days' notice ends it. Annual billing is optional and lowers the monthly rate.

Is ad spend included in the plan price?

Your plan fee and any money paid to Meta or TikTok for ads are two different numbers. We'll show both to you in writing before anything starts, so there are no surprises.

Do you charge GST or HST?

Yes. Prices are in Canadian dollars, and the tax follows your province: GST, HST, or GST and QST in Quebec.

Is the first consultation really free?

Yes. Eligible trades businesses get the first 30-minute consultation at no charge, and it isn't tied to signing up for anything.
